The Government of Jamaica (GOJ) through the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology (MSET) has committed funds towards the cost of managing the country’s upstream energy needs in a manner that supports the overall strategy for national development; this includes driving Oil & Gas Exploration in Jamaica. In anticipation that an exploration well may be drilled, the MSET intends to be prepared to manage and monitor any offshore drilling operations that may occur. In keeping with this objective the MSET intends to apply the funds toward payments under a contract for the engage a drilling consultant to, inter alia, assist in the development and training of its staff as well as other GOJ staff in offshore drilling operations, assist in the evaluation of draft drilling regulations and plans, and provide technical assistance in the execution of a safe drill execution within offshore Jamaica should a decision be made for a well to be drilled.
