Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre
The Danish State has decided to produce oil and gas in the transition period until the society is ready to be fossil-free. The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (DHRTC) was established in 2014 as part of a National strategy in agreement between the Danish state, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and its partners and the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC) consisting of Total, Shell, Chevron and Nordsøfonden.
DHRTC is a partnership of five universities and research institutions: Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Aalborg University, Aarhus University, Copenhagen University and the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. DHRTC is established in close collaboration with DUC partners on all levels. Our vision is based on new, innovative collaboration between industry and universities in order to solve significant, cross-disciplinary technical challenges. The main objective is to identify, integrate, and mature a wide range of new solutions, which can increase hydrocarbon recovery for Denmark in a safe, environmental and commercially feasible way.
After four years of development, there are approximately 200 employees associated from five institutions, a funding of 1 billion DKK for a 10-year period, access to real-life data is established and six large programmes are running. In other words, DHRTC is well underway with a strategy, an organization, a portfolio and yet many opportunities for further development, still with a significant timeframe and portion of the initial 1BDKK funding free to be allocated to new activities. The established collaboration model gives us a unique platform to do research and implement new insights into applicable technology concepts and solutions. We believe that innovation happens when highly motivated researchers, students and industry experts collaborate on a common set of challenges.
The Director will secure and nurture the collaboration between the centre’s many partners and stakeholders, including Aarhus University, Aalborg University, the Technical University of Denmark, the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, and the University of Copenhagen as well as the Danish Underground Consortium.
The DHRTC Director responsibilities will include:
- Develop, with the Steering Committee (SC) and other key stakeholders, the research and programme portfolio
- Continually refresh strategic priorities of the initiative, in collaboration with DTU, DUC and other external stakeholders
- Develop annual business plan and budget and ensure alignment with strategic objectives
- Visibly represent DHRTC and DTU research externally
- Develop strategies to grow organizational capability
- Develop alignment and cooperation with other pertinent programs at Technical University of Denmark, Aarhus University, Aalborg University, the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, and the University of Copenhagen
- Oversee all communications, development and outreach internally and externally to other academic institutions, businesses and organizations
- Ensure ongoing alignment between strategic and business plans and actual expenditures and execution
Applicants should be recognized professionals with an academic or industrial background within the DHRTC programmes. Moreover, emphasis is put on the following characteristics
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate project teams that span multiple organizational boundaries
- Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate academic and business partnerships
- Relevant M.Sc. / PhD degree
It is important that you are motivated and anxious to lead DHRTC with an open mind to employees, new ideas and opportunities, yet with the underlying drive to demonstrate new solutions and results.
Moreover, you must confidently be able to balance academic and business environments and be able to stimulate a fruitful dialogue and collaboration across disciplines and institutions identifying and supporting the areas with significant impact potential.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on qualifications and the collective agreement of the Danish Professional Associations (AC) and guideline “Cirkulære om institutledere og dekaner ved universiteterne”.
