One of our clients, a Major International Operator is seeking a Senior Drilling Engineer to join their Calgary based team.
Purpose of the job:
Working effectively with the Operator (partnership) of the licence areas in the Shale Gas Basin, the Senior Drilling Engineer is responsible for:
Review of casing and wellhead designs to ensure well integrity and compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Conducting critical review of the Operator's drilling programs and recommended practices with a view to promoting technical innovation and consistent well delivery.
Within this framework, driving down drilling costs to ensure the achievement of the company's anticipated economic return from its investment in the Partnership
Monitoring daily progress of drilling operations of up to 15 drilling rigs working simultaneously on numerous rigs sites
Work with an interdisciplinary team to drive down costs whilst targeting prime reservoir targets
Qualifications and expertise required:
Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline or related equivalent qualification.
Valid Well Control Certification (IADC or IWCF) would be an advantage
Demonstrated commitment to conduct all work within a framework of stringent safety, environmental and regulatory practices and compliance.
Minimum of 10 years drilling related experience with good exposure to the spectrum of drilling (development and exploration) and workovers and the roles of office engineer, field engineer and drilling supervisor/superintendent.
Experience in unconventional shale gas drilling techniques is required with specific exposure to pad drilling, horizontal drilling and simultaneous operations.
Experience with engineering computer software for well design, directional planning, casing design, torque & drag modelling and hydraulics modelling.
Prior experience in a start-up operation in a fast paced and growth-focused organization would be an advantage
Ability and prior experience of presenting and discussing plans, options, risks, cost estimates and cost reports with senior management.
Strong technical and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to coordinate multiple initiatives and supervise diverse teams in support of large-scale drilling operations
A track record of success in executing drilling campaigns through the cycle of:
Developing scoping well designs and cost estimates during early stages
Preparing the final well design, AFEs and drilling programs
Rig selection criteria; casing and drill string designs
Mud and cement programs and bit programs
- Coordination and incorporation of wellbore evaluation programs, well control procedures and contingency plans
- Bidding and contracting process
- Monitoring / reporting progress and real time and post well costs
- Verification and approval of invoices
Working knowledge of the regulations applicable to the Oil and Gas Industry in Canada
