Job Title Geological Technologist
Location Calgary, AB
One of our clients, a Major International Owner Operator is seeking a Geological Technologist to join their Calgary, AB based team.
This position will provide technical support to Geologists, Hydrogeologists and the Project Data Manager and will contribute to the development of the company's subsurface projects. The Technologist will be responsible for developing and maintaining project data maps with GIS applications (primarily ArcGIS with interfaces to Landmark Software). This role also provides support to Hydrogeologists in the development and maintenance of hydrogeological databases (water well monitoring and testing data).
Support the development and maintenance of a purpose built water database
Data downloading, retrieval and QA/QC from various instrumentation data sources (e.g. Pi and EC) including field-based pressure transducers.
Perform technical work from time to time in support of geoscience staff including occasional overnight field visits to our client's lease areas for data collection or manual downloads.
Maintain and update proprietary lease, well data and culture GIS layers.
Support our client's data standards and best practices.
Secure efficient access to and reuse of relevant data and information (well files, maps and well logs), as well as assure storage and traceability of information and data supporting business decisions
Support Project databases (OpenWorks, EDM, RMS, Petrel, OFM, etc.) with the Project Data Manager.
Provide quality mapping, cross section and results for data request from team.
Assist in the data research for subsurface projects.
Provide basic application support (Landmark, Accumap and ArcGIS).
Load and QC data in Landmark.
A degree/diploma in a petroleum-related discipline (at least three years' study) or equivalent. (Industry experience within relevant area may compensate for formal education).
Minimum 5 years of oil and gas industry experience.
Experience with Geological, Hydrogeological, Well Test, Reservoir and Production data and a general understanding of databases.
Proficiency in Landmark (OpenWorks, StratWorks), ArcGIS, Accumap, IHS Data Manger, LINUX, Oracle SQL, SED, awk, and MS products
Experience with environmental databases such as EQUIS, ESdat or similar is an advantage
Familiarity with Geological/Hydrogeological tools and concepts
